The normal madness is the 41st studio album by Udo Juergens . It was released on March 18, 2011 by Ariola ( Sony Music ).

Emergence

With the songwriting for the album Udo Jürgens began in early 2010 following hip replacement surgery. In the summer of that year he had written 14 songs on the piano and wanted to start producing the album. Together with the co-producer Peter Wagner, Jürgens decided to make the recordings with an orchestra. First he had the rhythm section of the Pepe Lienhard Orchestra fly to Berlin . Then he presented from various Berlin orchestras, e. B. the Berliner Philharmoniker , an ensemble of around 100 people, who were supposed to make the recordings with him. The recordings took place in the Berlin Hansa recording studios .

publication

The album was presented on March 17, 2011 at the GOP Varieté Theater in Munich . As part of the event, Udo Jürgens was also presented with a platinum record for 200,000 units of his 2009 best-of album sold. The tour for the album has been announced for spring 2012.

The album was released under the impressions of the Tōhoku earthquake in 2011 and the Fukushima nuclear disaster . At the presentation of the album, he explained that he saw his role as an entertainer and that he was trying to distract people with his songs in these "crazy times".

Lyrics and music

The lyrics of the album are very different, so you can find "thoughtful (e), satirical (e) or optimistic (e)" texts on the album. Some of the texts are socially critical and deal with topics such as the decay of morals ( Der absolut normal Wahnsinn , author: Wolfgang Hofer) and the German language ( Everything is so easy , author: Rainer Thielmann & Udo Jürgens), the aging process ( October wind , Author: Rainer Thielmann), but also genre-typical love songs ( if a song were like you , I need you for that, author: Wolfgang Hofer). The album consists largely of ballads , which are occasionally interrupted by up-tempo songs. Most of the songs are accompanied by orchestral accompaniment. In the Udo-Jürgens-typical hits and chansons in entertainment style , influences from jazz and bossa nova mix .

reception

The album was generally well received. Maja Schäfer from Intro magazine states that Udo Jürgens “never deals with embarrassing clichés” in his songs, but rather is capable of “carefully observed social criticism.” Laut.de praises the “dense, harmonious atmosphere”.
