Deraeocoris lutescens is a species of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).
features
The bugs are 3.7 to 4.5 millimeters long. They have an orange-brown basic color with a blackish pattern and translucent hemielytres . The species is partially variable, but you can usually find two dark spots on the unpunctured label ( scutellum ). The nymphs are brightly colored and have long bristles.
Occurrence and habitat
The species is distributed from southern Scandinavia to the Mediterranean and North Africa and east to the Caucasus. It is widespread and common in Central Europe.
Way of life
The bugs feed predatory and live on various deciduous trees, especially on linden ( Tilia ), oak ( Quercus ), maple ( Acer ), hazel ( Corylus ) and elm ( Ulmus ), and more rarely on fruit trees such as apples ( Malus ) and other deciduous trees . The species can also be found on conifers such as pine ( Pinus ), larch ( Larix ), juniper ( Juniperus ) or arborvitae ( Thuja ). They mainly suckle on aphids and leaf fleas and also on small caterpillars. The adult bugs hibernate, not infrequently in large groups under large areas of loose bark, for example that of plane trees , sycamore maples or chestnuts . They rarely hibernate in dry litter or invade apartments. The females lay their eggs in May and June, rarely earlier. You sink them deep into the young woody shoots of the host trees. The nymphs can be found from May to September, the adult animals of the new generation appear from mid-July.
