Derecik ( Kurdish Rubaruk often also Rubarok ) was a small town in the Şemdinli district of the Turkish province of Hakkâri . Since 2018 Derecik has been a separate district, separated from the Şemdinli district . Derecik is located in the extreme south - east of Turkey near the Iraqi border, about 30 km southwest of Şemdinli. The distance to the Iraqi border is about 10 km as the crow flies.

The former name of the place was Rubaruk. This name is derived from the Kurdish Rûbarik and, like Derecik, means "little stream". The community was formed in 1995 by merging some villages along the stream.

There is a barracks in Derecik. According to the Diyarbakır human rights organization, a mass grave was discovered there. There are the remains of a group of 120 PKK fighters who were killed in fighting in 1992. There are also 30 PKK guerrillas who fell in a raid on the barracks in 1993 and 14 other people, including 12 village guards who were arrested in 1994 and then disappeared. They were shot and buried in the barracks garden.

The district was formed in 2018 from the southwest part of the Şemdinli district. It borders on this district in the north, the remaining borders exist with neighboring Iraq . In addition to the district town, the district also consists of four villages ( Köy ) with an average of 3,192 residents. All the villages have over a thousand inhabitants: Anadağ (4,552), Gelişen (4,427), Uslu (2,048) and Ortaklar (1,742 inhabitants).
