Dereje Tesfaye

Dereje Tesfaye (born September 30, 1985 in Arsi ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon distance .

In his 2004 debut at the Amsterdam Marathon , he finished eleventh in 2:15:06 hours. The following year he was third in the Enschede Marathon and sixth in the Frankfurt Marathon . In 2006, finishing eighth in the Hamburg Marathon, he increased his personal best to 2:11:10 h.

After that, Tesfaye initially stagnated in his performance development. At the Amsterdam Marathon he was only 17th in 2006 and 19th in 2007. In 2008, he finished fourth in the Enschede Marathon and came second in the Zwolle Half Marathon . At the Half Marathon World Championships in Rio de Janeiro , he finished 18th. At the end of the season he won the Montferland Run over 15 kilometers.

The 2009 season started for Tesfaye with a fifth place in the Dubai Marathon . Two months later he set a personal best in the half marathon in the City - Pier - City Loop in third place in 1:00:02 h . At the Rotterdam Marathon he was twelfth, as well as at the Half Marathon World Championships in Birmingham , where he also won the bronze medal in the team competition. At the end of the season he started at the Fukuoka Marathon .
