Desecrator is an Australian thrash metal band from Melbourne that was formed in 2008.

history

Two years after its founding, the band self-published a self-titled EP in 2010 as the first musical sign of life. A year later, the live recording Live Til Death , which the music label High Voltage Records and Tridroid Records was widespread. The concert was recorded at the club The Arthouse (Melbourne), with Harris Johns responsible for the mix . The third sound carrier - the 10 "vinyl Down to Hell - was, as before, a live recording from Melbourne, where Johns did the mix again. It was self- published, as in 2016 with the compilation Skulls 'N' Daggers .

In the same year the band toured Europe twice, first as opening act for the New York thrash band Overkill , then as opening act for Venom Inc.

For the official debut album , Desecrator signed a contract with Dinner For Wolves Records for distribution in Australia and New Zealand and in Europe with Violent Creek Records , who work with Soulfood as a distributor. The recordings for To the Gallows found in the recording studio Toyland and Goatsound Studios held in Melbourne, the mastering took Brad Boatright. Shortly after the release in Europe, the band went on tour with Airbourne at the end of 2017 . The tour led through 13 European countries and Desecrator performed. a. in Melkweg (Amsterdam), the Große Freiheit (Hamburg) and Huxley's (Berlin) as well as the Samsung Hall (near Zurich).

style

The band plays Thrash Metal with a “strong American influence”, which is “fast and melodic, occasionally a bit punk” and reminds one of Anthrax . Other references are Death Angel , Nuclear Assault , Sacred Reich and Forbidden . Bonds to Exodus and Testament were also found in the sound.

reception

In the reviews of To the Gallows , Desecrator received good ratings. For example, it was emphasized that the band “is not only on the move at high speed”, but “also attaches importance to riffs, melodies and cool breaks”. In addition, the quartet knows what it is doing, "sometimes punch very heartily into the meat" and "always put you in a good mood". In summary, it was also stated that the debut album was "50 minutes of very entertaining entertainment".

Elsewhere, the album was simply referred to as "solid fare for all retro thrash fans". The reviewer of the Ox-Fanzine found "the sound not quite successful, even if you have probably heard worse".

During the tour with Airbourne, a concert reporter stated that entertainment was "guaranteed" and that the band was "carefree" to recommend "especially for fans of Thrash Metal".
