action

Literature professor Vivian Bell, who teaches at Columbia University , 35 years old, good-looking, quite cold-hearted, is divorcing her professor colleague and husband, which is why she comes to Reno. Cay Rivvers is ten years younger, a dark-haired free spirit, works at night in the local casino and during the day pottery in the “Divorce Ranch” of her late father's friend, Frances. Frances loves her like her daughter, but cannot accept her self-sufficient lifestyle, in which Cay aggressively expresses her inclination towards women. When Cay meets Vivian, she discovers unknown feelings and long-hidden sides of her personality, her own desires and fear, as she sees her career in danger. Eventually Cay and Vivian find each other.

Reviews

“Donna Deitch tells her story gently, sometimes too gently, but always with a calm voice and a clear structure… It's as moving and erotic as any story of a first love. That means first and foremost that DESERT HEARTS is not just a women’s film. But the men still don't look too good in it. "

"Gentle lesbian film classic."
