Detlev Christian Dicke

Detlev Christian Dicke (born October 4, 1942 in Chrzanów , Upper Silesia; † November 7, 1992 in Bösingen , Switzerland) was a German legal scholar and professor of international law at the University of Friborg (Switzerland).

Life

Detlev Dicke was born as the son of a German soldier and mine director and an administrative employee in Upper Silesia (now Poland). Shortly after his birth, his mother fled with him to Darmstadt . The father was killed at the front in World War II.

Dick studied law at the Universities of Frankfurt am Main , Modena and London . He became Ingo von Münch's assistant at the Ruhr University in Bochum , where he also received his doctorate in 1967. After the second state examination , he received his habilitation at the University of Münster in 1976 . In 1977 he was appointed professor of international law at the University of Freiburg. As dean of the law faculty, he founded the chair for European law and promoted partnerships with other universities.

Dick was involved in the creation of a constitution for the country of Kyrgyzstan in 1992. His importance for this young country was shown not least in the fact that the parliament observed a minute's silence on his death.

Dick was married and had two children.
