Detlev Kreikenbom

Detlev Kreikenbom (born June 16, 1951 in Berlin ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Detlev Kreikenbom studied classical archeology, ancient history and art history at the University of Kiel , the Free University of Berlin and the University of Rome . He received his doctorate in 1987 in Kiel under Konrad Schauenburg with the thesis Greek and Roman colossal portraits up to the late first century AD . He then worked at the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt am Main , and later at the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt . Since 1991 he has been a lecturer, from 1992 to 1995 visiting professor at the Winckelmann Institute at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1996 he was a visiting professor at the University of Cologne . From 1998 until his retirement in 2018 he taught as a professor at the University of Mainz .

Kreikenbom's research focuses on Greek and Roman sculpture as well as the reception of ancient sculpture in modern times and the history of specialist research and research. He conducts field research in Leptis Magna and is project manager of the Roman Sculptures from Syria project . Kreikenbom is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .
