The professional association of German psychologists e. V. (BDP) represents the professional interests of established, independent and salaried / civil servants psychologists and psychologists from all areas of activity in Germany.

history

The association was founded on June 5, 1946 on the initiative of some psychologists in Hamburg . It is one of the oldest professional associations in Germany. Together with the German Society for Psychology (DGPs), the BDP forms the Federation of German Psychological Associations . He was a founding member of the European Federation of Psychological Professional Associations (EFPA) and is now a member of the Federation of German Psychological Associations, together with the German Society for Psychology , the science society . Until 1995 the female psychologists were included in the association name, the professional association was still called "Professional Association of German Psychologists".

Structure of the association

Members

Today around 11,000 members, around 1/4 of all German psychologists or Masters, are represented by the BDP in all professional and educational matters.

organs

The board of directors is elected by the conference of delegates for a period of three years by secret ballot. He represents the association externally and conducts the association's business.

The president of the BDP is Meltem Avci-Werning, the vice-presidents are Annette Schlipphak and Gunter Nittel.

The presidium is formed jointly by the executive committee and the chairmen of the sections. He is responsible for the supra-regional and interdisciplinary tasks. The board of directors and the presidium give an account of this to the delegates' conference.

The Conference of Delegates (DK) is the central legislative body of the BDP. It determines the guidelines for the association's work through fundamental and general resolutions and elects the members of the board. The delegates' conference holds regular meetings at least twice a year. Meetings of the delegates' conference are open to the association.

Office

Since summer 2001 the professional association has its seat in Berlin and its federal office in Berlin-Mitte . At the same time, this acts as an office for individual regional groups and sections - others have their own offices.

In February 2009 the federal office was relocated to the new House of Psychology at Köllnischer Park in Berlin-Mitte; The Berlin School of Psychology is also located in the building, and its teaching began in the 2010/2011 winter semester.

tasks and goals

The association sees its task as increasing knowledge about people and using this knowledge and skills for the benefit of the individual and society. Special attention should be paid to the dignity and integrity of the individual. The overriding goal is the preservation and protection of fundamental human rights.

The association operates its own public relations work on psychological and psychotherapeutic topics, including a. through events, press releases and the Psychology Report . The BDP organizes further training and represents the members on social and political issues relating to questions of psychology and psychotherapy.

He regularly expresses himself on professional-political and socially relevant topics and publishes publications.

The press office provides journalists with free experts on psychological issues.

Subsidiaries of the BDP

As the BDP is a non-profit association, tasks with a commercial background have been outsourced to GmbHs, which are 100% owned by the BDP.

German psychologist publishing house

The German Psychologists Verlag (DPV) is the publishing house of the BDP and was founded in 1984. 4 journals, books and other media are part of the publishing program.

German Academy of Psychologists

The German Psychological Academy is the educational institution of the BDP and offers psychological training, further education and training in Germany . It emerged in 1988 from the educational work of the BDP. Since December 1993 it has been a subsidiary of the professional association. Initially based in Bonn, the office has been located in the House of Psychology in Berlin since 2009.

The Berlin Academy for Psychotherapy (BAP) and the Psychotherapy Information Service (PID) are institutions of the German Psychological Academy. As a state-recognized training institute, the BAP is responsible for training graduated psychologists to become psychological psychotherapists.

The German Psychologist Academy has taken over the application process for various certifications from the BDP and the Federation of German Psychologists Associations (BDP with the DGPs ). In addition, expert registers are kept.

Psychological University Berlin

The Psychological University Berlin (PHB) was founded in 2010 by the professional association of German psychologists. At the PHB everything revolves around psychology and psychotherapy - more precisely: first-class university education in these areas. From psychology studies to psychotherapy training in four directions: the PHB offers a unique range of psychological training at the highest scientific level under one roof.

Psychotherapy Information Service (PID)

The Psychotherapy Information Service (PID) is a service offered by the German Psychological Academy of the Professional Association of German Psychologists (BDP). People who need competent advice on choosing the right therapist can either use the free therapist search in the online database or take advantage of the free telephone advice.

Recognition tasks

The certification confirms the effectiveness of an app-supported psychological intervention and also the quality aspects of transparency, data protection, user-friendliness and the professionalism of the people involved, including an ethical obligation. Digital psychological health offers that have a positive influence on psychological well-being in a qualified manner and ensure transparency and safety for patients are eligible for the examination process.

Quality mark for online advice

The BDP has developed a quality mark for online advice. This guarantees a minimum level of quality in psychological counseling on the Internet . This includes questions of education and training, supervision and questions of data protection and data security in online consulting .

State loan

With the introduction of the Driving License Ordinance in 1999, the BDP was given a state loan with the task of officially recognizing traffic psychological advisors (regulated in Section 71 FeV, cf.). The task of recognition lies with the Traffic Psychology Section.

European and international networking

The EuroPsy program created a uniform European training standard for academic psychology training .

As part of the Federation of German Psychological Associations , together with the German Society for Psychology as the science society , the BDP is a member of the relevant international bodies, such as B. the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) and the European Federation of Psychological Associations (EFPA).

Hugo Münsterberg Medal

Between 1981 and 2007, the BDP awarded the Hugo Münsterberg Medal for "special services to applied psychology".
