The company was founded in August 2006. The first four nursing homes opened a year later. Since then, one to four new locations have been added each year. In February 2011 the DSG was one of 17 winners in the “Care” ideas competition organized by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Affairs, Women, Family, Health and Integration. The award was given to an advertising campaign designed by the DSG to recruit skilled nurses.
In April 2014, the Deutsche Seniorenstift Gesellschaft published guidelines for the 7/7 working time model in care. An essential part of this is a move away from the 5.5-day week that is often used in care and the associated early and late shifts. Instead, the nursing staff work on seven consecutive days for 10 hours each with a 2-hour break and then have seven days off.
