German association for a Christian culture

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Association for a Christian Culture (DVCK) eV, based in Frankfurt (Main), is an association founded in 1983 by a group of Catholic laypeople, according to its self-image a "private initiative without official ties to churches or political parties" with a Catholic orientation as well a non-denominational field of activity. The chairman is Benno Hofschulte.

activities

The German Association for a Christian Culture - DVCK eV appears in public with three actions or initiatives:

  • The SOS Leben campaign has existed since 1990 and primarily speaks out against abortions under Section 218 of the German Criminal Code. Bioethical issues such as stem cell research, cloning, etc. are dealt with subordinately. Benno Hofschulte is in charge of the campaign.
  • The Children in Danger campaign deals with the topics of youth media protection, family policy and the like. Mathias von Gersdorff is in charge of the campaign . The action runs public campaigns and issues publications on these topics. On the Internet, the campaign leads initiatives against the magazine Bravo , against blasphemy, and against an adoption right for same-sex civil partnerships. Children in danger is active on YouTube with the account. Opinions are regularly given there on topics such as same-sex civil partnerships, right to life, etc. On the occasion of the 2009 Bundestag election, the campaign presented a catalog of minimum requirements for the Chancellor candidates with regard to media and family policy, to which the CDU responded. Youth protection authorities have regularly dealt with the protest actions, such as the voluntary self-regulation of television , the Bavarian state center for new media or the commission for youth media protection .
  • Furthermore, the association publishes Catholic books and small writings under the name Aktion Deutschland Needs Mary's Help and sells Catholic devotional items such as the rosary and the miraculous medal . Carlos (Carl) Schaffer is in charge of this campaign.

The association took part in the 1000 crosses protest marches against abortion in Berlin, Munich and Münster. The association has also been present at the March for Life in Washington for years . The association has repeatedly spoken out in favor of the reintroduction of religion as an elective subject on the occasion of the Pro Reli referendum in Berlin on April 26, 2009.

Media coverage and criticism

The initiatives against Bravo have met with repeated media coverage and have been advertised on the Internet via the Google services Adwords and YouTube . The taz reported about 10,000 participants and also regarding inconsistencies of the association with an alleged supporting Professor Dahl. The Munich TZ , a weblog on welt.de , and various Christian-conservative information services also reported on the actions against Bravo . Statements (partly on YouTube) and initiatives against the equality of same-sex partnerships with marriage encounter strong criticism from publications for homosexual people such as Pride1 , Queer, etc. Die Welt reported on two initiatives against alleged blasphemy . Statements from Pope Benedict XVI were regularly posted on the website . documented on topics such as abortion, family or same-sex partnerships. Criticism from associations such as the LSVD or Member of the Bundestag Volker Beck (condom debate during the papal trip to Africa in 2009, for example) of the Pope's statements was systematically responded to with counter-comments and the position from Rome was defended.

Tax status of the association

The DVCK eV sees itself as a political association and is therefore not non-profit due to the tax code (§§ 51–68 AO BG BI I p. 613, ber. 1977 I p. 269). According to his own statements, he lost his non-profit status in 1995. The association has repeatedly explained the status at the Frankfurt am Main tax office (influencing the formation of political or state opinion and influencing political decisions) in publications and on the Internet.
