Roberto de Mattei

Roberto de Mattei (born February 21, 1948 in Rome ) is an Italian professor of history and publicist .

Life

Roberto de Mattei was born as the son of the historian Freiherr (Baron) Rodolfo de Mattei. After graduating in contemporary history from the Faculty of Political Science at La Sapienza University in Rome , he worked as assistant to Augusto del Noce and later at the side of historian Armando Saitta . From 1986 he took over the chair of contemporary history at the University of Cassino . Today he teaches church history at the Università Europea di Roma .

From 2002 to 2006 he was an advisor to the Italian government on international affairs. From 2003 to 2011 de Mattei was Vice President of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (National Research Council, comparable in rank to the German Max Planck Society ). De Mattei is chairman of the Lepanto Foundation , an institution of Catholic traditionalists , which is considered "one of the control points in the fight against Pope Francis ". He is also director of the three-month magazine for contemporary history Nova Historica , editor of the monthly magazine Radici Cristiane and head of the news service Corrispondenza Romana .

In 2011, de Mattei described the earthquake in Japan , which was followed by a devastating tsunami , as "proof of the existence of God" and as "just punishment". At another point in time he publicly stated that the fall of the Roman Empire was a result of homosexuality , prostitution, etc.

In 2011, de Mattei received the famous Italian historian prize Premio Acqui Storia for his book The Second Vatican Council - a previously unwritten story (original title: Concilio Vaticano II. Una storia mai scritta ).

Contributions by de Mattei are translated into German by the right-wing conservative web portal "Katholisches.info" and published. In November 2015 he gave an interview to the Priestly Society of St. Pius X. in which he agreed to the statements of Superior General Bernard Fellay regarding the Ordinary Synod of Bishops 2015.

De Mattei is married and has five children.
