Dichlorophene is a chemical compound from the group of phenol derivatives (more precisely diphenylmethane derivative ) and organochlorine pesticides.

history

Dichlorophene has been known as a fungicide in cotton mills since 1946 .

use

Dichlorophene is or has been used as a biocide , algicide and bactericide with a broad spectrum of activity, with 5-10 ppm active dichlorophene being sufficient for complete control of microbial growth. Typical areas of application were e.g. B. in formulations for cooling water systems, slime control agents in paper manufacture, preservatives in dyes, adhesives, polymers and latex products, textiles and water-based products. Since 2009 dichlorophene may be used for biocidal product types 2, 3, 4, 6 and 13, and since 2011 also not for 7, 9, 10, 11 and 12.

It is used as a medicinal substance in anthelmintics and in the form of powders, ointments or sprays as an antifungal agent against fungal diseases and in cosmetics as a preservative. Preparations based on dichlorophene are no longer permitted for animals in Germany, and use on food-producing animals is not permitted.

safety instructions

Dichlorophene is a type IV contact allergen and is used as a test allergen (epicutaneous test).
