Dick's Picks Volume 11 is a Live - triple album of the band Grateful Dead .

history

The songs on the album were recorded on September 27, 1972 at the Stanley Theater in Jersey City , New Jersey , and released on June 9, 1998 with their own label Grateful Dead Records .

In 1972 the Deads gave 88 official concerts, performing three times at the Stanley Theater . These three performances took place one after the other from September 26th to 28th as part of her summer tour through America. Of this, the complete show from September 27th was used, which was then divided into two sets.

In spring 1972, the Deads toured Europe and released the album Europe '72 (1972). The next album with timely songs was the studio album Wake of the Flood (1973), which at the time was the first studio album in three years. However, no pieces from this album have been practiced or tested live at this concert. From the most successful live album Europe '72, on the other hand, the songs Cumberland Blues , He's Gone , China Cat Sunflower , I Know You Rider , Ramble on Rose , Tennessee Jed and Morning Dew were used, but they largely belonged to the typical live repertoire and have already been on other albums were heard. In comparison, the songs Friend of the Devil , Brokedown Palace and Attics of My Life were from the last studio album American Beauty (1970) , of which at least Friend of the Devil was included in the permanent live repertoire. Attics of My Life was rarely played live after its release. The last time was on December 27, 1970.

The album was produced by tape engineer Owsley Stanley , who previously produced the albums Dick's Picks Volume 4 (1996) and History of the Grateful Dead, Vol. 1 (Bear's Choice) (1973) for Grateful Dead.

The name Dick's Pick comes from the official recording archivist of the band Dick Latvala , who started the series and selected the songs for it until his death in 1999.

Like the previous albums in the Dick's Pick series, this one also has a caveat emptor warning:

" This release was digitally mastered directly from the original half track 7.5 ips analog tape. It is a snapshot of history, not a modern professional recording, and may therefore exhibit some minor technical anomalies and the unavoidable effects of the ravages of time. "

criticism
