Dick "Cookie" Voorn (born October 29, 1948 in Uithoorn ) is a Dutch football coach and former professional player . He is a long-time assistant coach to the former Dutch bond coach Bert van Marwijk .

Career

Voorn got his nickname "Cookie" after his family moved to Maastricht from the west of the Netherlands. They were called the "Hollandse koekenbakkers" there ; from this his comrades derived the nickname "Cook" for his older brother and "Cookie" for the younger Dick. At the age of 17 in 1965, Voorn signed his first professional contract with MVV in Maastricht . But he was not used continuously in the first team. The left-sided player, who as a striker began, quickly became the full-back retrained. In 1969 he moved to the Belgian second division club SK Tongeren , for whom he played six years. With this club he experienced a promotion and a relegation. His greatest success as a player was a cup final with SK Tongeren, which was lost. In 1975, at the age of 27, he had to end his professional career due to a back problem.

Even during his professional career, Dick "Cookie" Voorn acquired his coaching license up to the highest Dutch level. After finishing his career, he initially worked as a coach in Maaseik, Belgium, and at Bilzen en Swift in Roermond , before moving to Fortuna Sittard as a youth coach in 1978 through contact with his former MVV teammate Willy Quadackers . However, he soon became an assistant to the then trainer Joop Castenmiller . For 26 years he remained assistant coach at Fortuna under a number of head coaches, including Georg Keßler , Frans Körver , Bert Jacobs , Hans van Doorneveld and Bert van Marwijk. For the 2004/05 season he moved to Borussia Dortmund as assistant van Marwijks . He was also a scout for Feyenoord Rotterdam for a year . There he had been working again as van Marwijk's assistant since summer 2007. In summer 2008 he followed van Marwijk to the Dutch national team.

Voorn's greatest success so far was reaching the Dutch Cup final in 1999 with Fortuna Sittard.
