The third dimension (original title: Le Couteau dans la plaie ) is a French - Italian thriller of the Nouvelle Vague by Anatole Litvak from 1962.

action

The attractive Lisa leads an unhappy marriage to the pathologically jealous and violent Robert. When he crashes on a business trip by plane and reports that there are no survivors, the problems of the life-hungry young woman tragically seem to resolve by themselves. The greater the shock for her when Robert reappears a short time later. He wants Lisa to collect his stately life insurance for him and give it to him. In return he promises her to stay out of her life in the future. Lisa agrees and, while preparing the fraud, tries to get close to the kind-hearted journalist David Barnes, to whom she does not reveal herself, but who suspects what is going on. When the money is handed over, Robert no longer wants to hear about his promise and wants to force Lisa to stay with him. Desperate Lisa makes a fatal decision.

criticism

"An intelligently staged, emotionally charged detective."

“Despite the star cast, Anatole Litvak's thriller is only partially convincing because it only works on an emotional level. If you switch on the logic, you are quickly lost here. However, the acting performances of the two main actors are convincing: Anthony Perkins, who two years earlier rose to star overnight with Psycho , plays the diabolical husband, Sophia Loren is the mistreated wife.
