Diego Arismendi , full name Hugo Diego Arismendi Ciapparetta , (born January 25, 1988 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

Midfielder Arismendi has played for Nacional Montevideo since Apertura 2006 . In the first season he came on ten missions (no goal). At the Bolsos he was in the squad until the Clausura 2009 and was part of the team that won the Uruguayan championship in the 2008/09 season. On August 31, 2009 the move from Arismendi to Stoke City was announced. In the League Cup game against Blackpool , Arismendi made his debut for Stoke on September 22, 2009. However, he had to be replaced at half time due to an injury. Stoke City still won the game 4-3. Due to only two appearances in the League Cup, Arismendi moved on loan on March 2, 2010 to Brighton & Hove Albion . However, his time at Brighton was marred by injuries and ended with a red card in his last game. For the coming season Arismendi was awarded again. When Barnsley FC Arismendi came now regularly used and scored against Leeds United on 14 September 2010, his first goal. A total of 31 league appearances and one goal was recorded for him at the end. He also played a goalless FA Cup encounter for him personally. A return to Stoke City followed. Again he did not get a chance in the league despite three appointments to the matchday squad, but the coach used him in four games (no goal) of the Europa League. From March 2012 he joined - also as part of a loan deal - for Huddersfield Town in the third division League 1 . He ran nine times in the league, but scored no goals. Even on his third attempt at Stoke City in the 2012/13 season, he could not prevail and was left out in all competitions. In early December 2012, his contract with Stoke City, which was actually still running until the end of the 2012/13 season, was terminated, after which he intended to return to his home country. This was exactly what happened in the early months of 2013; he signed a contract with Nacional Montevideo. There he was used in the 2013 Clausura eleven times in the Primera División (one goal) and five times in the Copa Libertadores. In the 2013/14 season, he was used in 22 first division games (three goals) and three matches in the 2014 Copa Libertadores . In the 2014/15 season he extended his contract with the "Bolsos" until December 31, 2015 in mid-January 2015 and won the Uruguayan championship with the team. He played 23 games in the top Uruguayan league, scored five goals and also played twice (no goal) in the 2015 Copa Libertadores . He then moved to Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia in mid-July 2015 . There he completed 26 league games and scored two goals. He was also used in three matches (no goal) of the Crown Prince's Cup and one game (no goal) of the Champions Cup. At the end of July 2016 he returned to Nacional Montevideo. In the 2016 season, which ended with winning the national championship title for his club, he played in eleven first division games (no goal). During the current 2017 season he has so far (as of August 12, 2017) completed 19 top division games (two goals) and five games (no goal) in the 2017 Copa Libertadores .

National team

Arismendi took part in the U-16 South American Championship in Paraguay in 2004 with the Uruguayan U-16 selection trained by Gustavo Ferrín and Ángel Castelnoble , and finished fourth with the team. From October 2004 at the latest, Ferrín also called him to the Uruguayan U-17 . With this he became vice South American champion at the U-17 South American Championship in Venezuela in 2005 . At the U-17 World Cup in 2005 , he was also in the Uruguayan squad. In 2007, Arismendi played for the Uruguayan U-20 selection on the side of, for example, Luis Suárez , Edinson Cavani and Martín Cáceres . He took part in both the 2007 U-20 South American Championship in Paraguay and the 2007 U-20 World Cup in Canada .

On May 28, 2008 he made his debut under Óscar Tabarez in the senior team when he was substituted on in the international friendly against Norway (2-2) in the 73rd minute for Walter Gargano . His second international appearance took place as a member of the starting eleven in the World Cup qualification for the 2010 tournament in the game against Bolivia (2: 2) on October 14, 2008. Since then, he has remained without an international appearance. For the two international friendlies on October 10 and 13, 2014 against Saudi Arabia and Oman, he was again called up by coach Oscar Tabárez to the squad of the national team. After almost six years international break, he celebrated his comeback on October 10, 2014 against Saudi Arabia. His last international appearance was on October 13, 2014.
