Diego Innico Caracciolo (born July 18, 1759 in Martina Franca , Italy , † January 24, 1820 in Naples ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Diego Innico Caracciolo came from the old noble family Caracciolo von Martina. From 1767 he attended the Collegio Clementino in Rome and then studied the subjects of Catholic theology and philosophy . After his ordination , the doctor of law and canon law worked at the Court of Justice of the Apostolic Signature . From 1782 Caracciolo took on church leadership tasks in San Severino, Jesi and Fermo . From 1795 to 1800 he was master of the papal chamber. In this office he accompanied Pope Pius VI. into exile and was present when he died on August 29, 1799. Pope Pius VII made Caracciolo cardinal on August 11, 1800 , appointed him cardinal priest of Sant'Agostino and entrusted him with the management of the Congregation for Indulgences and Relics . Raised Cardinal Bishop of Palestrina in September 1814 , the pontiff personally ordained him episcopal on November 6, 1814 ; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Francesco Bertazzoli and Giuseppe Bartolomeo Menocchio , the papal sacristan . The Cardinal then headed the Apostolic Delegation in the election of the Vicar General in the Kingdom of Naples in 1815 and in 1818 became Prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature .

Caracciolo died on January 24, 1820 at the age of 61 in Naples and was buried in the Cathedral of Naples .
