Diego Martin-Etxebarria (* 1979 in Bilbao ) is a Spanish conductor .

life and career

Martin-Etxebarria grew up in Amurrio , Álava . He graduated from the Academy of Music in Catalonia with a diploma while attending the Accademia Chigiana in Siena , Italy . He received lessons from David Zinman , Dima Slobodeniouk , Lutz Köhler , Titus Engel and Jesús López Cobos , among others . He received a scholarship from the Humboldt Foundation and completed postgraduate studies as an orchestral conductor at the Liszt School of Music Weimar through a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) . He completed his concert exam at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden with Ekkehard Klemm and Christian Kluttig . In parallel to his studies, Diego Martin-Etxebarria assisted at the Opera in Bilbao , the Stadttheater Bern , the Semperoper Dresden and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées .

Martin-Etxebarria was artistic director at the Art Ensemble Barcelona from 2004 to 2007 and at the Euskadiko Ikasleen Orchestra (Basque Country) from 2007 to 2008. From 2010 to 2012 musical director of the Freiburg Academic Orchestra. He has also made guest appearances with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra , the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra , the Nagoya Philharmonic, the Osaka Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi , the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the Orquesta Sinfónica del Vallés, the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga and the Camerata Variabile Basel. Martin-Etxebarria is currently 1. Kapellmeister and deputy musical director at Theaters Krefeld and Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
