Diego de Soria

Diego de Soria OP (born April 16, 1558 in Los Yébenes , Toledo province , † 1613 in Lal-lo ) was bishop of the diocese of Nueva Segovia during the reign of Philip III.

Life

Diego de Soria entered the Convento de Santo Domingo in 1575 . After completing his studies, he was ordained a priest and then taught at the Universidad de Alcalá . From 1585 to 1586 he and a group prepared for the mission to the Philippines .

Misa de Aguinaldo

In 1587 Diego de Soria received a papal bull from Sixtus V , which made it possible in New Spain to celebrate the Misas de Aguinaldo in the open air during the nine days at the end of the liturgical year from December 16 to 24 . Las posadas developed from these . In Brazil, the first name Aguinaldo developed from this, which was the godfather of Emilio Aguinaldo in the Philippines . From 1587 Diego de Soria was the first pastor and prior of the Convento de Santo Domingo in Manila , in 1588 and 1596 he established the provincial chapters. He evangelized Pangasinan and went on an apostolic trip to the province of Cagayan . In 1594 he became a member of the junta of the Capitanía General de las Filipinas .

In 1598 he was appointed Procurador of the Capitanía General de las Filipinas at the Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial and at the Papal States. On his trip to Cádiz , via Acapulco , he established the San Jacinto Hospice in Mexico City as accommodation for missionaries in transit from Spain to the Philippines.

On November 12, 1601, the Consejo de Indias proposed Pope Clement VIII. Diego de Soria as a candidate for the post of bishop for the diocese of Nueva Segovia . The Pope complied with this proposal on November 15, 1602.

Diego de Soria was buried in the Church of Bagumbayan Sto Domingo de Guzman , now the Church of Lal-lo .
