Dieter Ameling (born August 17, 1941 in the Osnabrück region ) is a German manager. Until April 1, 2008 he was president of the steel trade association and chairman of the steel institute VDEh .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1961, Dieter Ameling studied metallurgy and materials science at the Clausthal University of Technology . After working as an assistant from 1967 to 1971, he started working on investigations in the six-substance system CaO - FeOn - MgO - MnOn - P2O5 [PO] - SiO2 at 1600 ° C in equilibrium with iron at the Faculty of Mining, Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology to Dr.-Ing. PhD .

His first job led him to the tube works Bous / Saar (1971–1973). In 1974 he became head of the steel works in Hamburg. In 1981 he first moved to Thyssen Niederrhein AG Oberhausen und Hochfeld as Operations Director and Plant Manager and in 1985 as Director and Head of Business Administration at Thyssen Stahl AG. In 1998 Ameling became a managing board member of the Association of German Ironworkers (VDEh), today's steel institute VDEh , and in 2000 he became president of the steel trade association in Düsseldorf and chairman of the steel institute VDEh . He led both community organizations under the umbrella of the Stahl-Zentrum. At the same time he became a member of the executive committee of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and was its representative for North Rhine-Westphalia . On March 31, 2008, Ameling moved his offices into younger hands. His successor is Hans Jürgen Kerkhoff .

Ameling has been chairman of the Friends of the Technical University of Clausthal since 2003 and chairman of the foundation council of the Volkenroda monastery since 2006 . He is very committed to Volkenroda, especially since the Christ Pavilion from EXPO 2000 , also known as the "Steel Church", was rebuilt there in 2001. From 2007 to 2009 he was a member of the senate of acatech - Academy of Science and Engineering, Munich / Berlin. The steel institute VDEh made him an honorary member. From 2005 to 2010 Ameling was a member of the DIN presidium. Because of his services to the standardization of iron and steel, he became a member of the Waldemar-Hellmich circle. The Federal Association of German Recycling and Disposal Companies (BDSV) awarded him the golden badge of honor.

After leaving his offices at the Stahl-Zentrum, he works as an industrial consultant. From 2010 to 2013 he was a non-executive board member of the Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation PLC (ENRC), which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. He is also a member of the advisory board of the EIKE association , which denies the scientific consensus of man-made global warming . Ameling has been a member of the Rotary Club of Oberhausen since 1981, with one interruption as a member of the RC Saarbrücken from 1992 to 1995. He has also been a member of the Catholic student association AV Glückauf-Salia Clausthal-Zellerfeld since 1961.
