Dieter Ernst
Dieter Ernst (born February 13, 1949 in Berlin ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and manager. From 1996 to 1999 he was State Secretary in the Berlin Senate Department for Economics and Enterprises and then until 2011 manager in the Berliner Wasserbetriebe group of companies .
Life and work
After graduating from school, Ernst began studying law and economics in 1968. He interrupted this in 1970 and was the full-time managing director of the German Committee of the International Association of Economic Students (AIESEC) for two years . He then continued his law studies at the Free University of Berlin . He passed the legal state exams in 1974 and 1977 respectively. From 1978 to 1980 he worked as a lawyer and research assistant in Berlin, then until 1985 as a public prosecutor at the Berlin Regional Court.
In the following 14 years, Ernst held political offices as district councilor and state secretary. From 1999 to 2011, Ernst worked as a manager at the Berliner Wasserbetriebe group of companies, initially as a member of the board of Berlinwasser Holding AG and managing director of Berlinwasser International GmbH (until 2002), then to CEO of Berlinwasser International AG (until 2011).
Dieter Ernst is married and has two children.

Ernst is a member of the CDU. From 1993 to 1996 he was Secretary General of the Berlin CDU .
From 1985 to 1987 Ernst was district councilor for public education, then until 1989 district mayor of the former Berlin district of Tiergarten . From 1989 to 1995 he was district councilor for social affairs and deputy district mayor. He then moved to the Senate Department for Economics and Businesses, initially led by Elmar Pieroth and from 1998 by Wolfgang Branoner , as State Secretary . He remained in this position until he was appointed to the management board of Berlinwasser Holding in 1999.
