Dieter Möhring (Manager)

Dieter Möhring (born August 31, 1909 in Berlin ; † August 24, 1981 in Badenweiler ) was a German engineer and industrial manager.

Möhring held various management positions in the American International Telephone & Telegraph (ITT) network from New York . He was best known as chairman of the board of directors and later supervisory board of the German subsidiary Standard Elektrik Lorenz , based in Stuttgart .

Life

Initially, Dieter Möhring studied telecommunications technology with a focus on high frequency technology at the Technical University of Berlin . After completing his degree in engineering in 1934, he stayed as a research assistant for another five years and, in addition to teaching, took on research tasks for the German Aviation Research Institute (DVL).

With the beginning of the Second World War he became a radio technology officer in the Army Weapons Office. After a short time in British captivity , he was again a consultant for this subject in the main administration for post and telecommunications in Berlin.

In 1950 Dieter Möhring switched to the private sector. He started as sales manager for wireless technology at C. Lorenz AG . After its merger in 1958 with Standard Elektrik AG to form Standard Elektrik Lorenz AG (SEL), he headed the Lorenzwerke. In 1963 he was deputy general director and in 1967 finally chairman of the board of the entire SEL company . He was also Vice President of ITT Europe, Inc.

On June 29, 1976 Möhring withdrew from active management of the company and moved to the supervisory board . A position in which he has also worked for several other companies over the years. He was an honorary judge at the Stuttgart Regional Court and also a member of the Presidium of the Central Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry (ZVEI).

Achievements and awards

The qualified engineer was made an honorary senator of the University of Stuttgart in 1973. The Federal Republic of Germany awarded him the Great Cross of the Order of Merit .
