Dieter Matthes (zoologist)
Dieter Matthes (born August 21, 1919 in Auerbach / Vogtl. , † March 9, 2012 in Uttenreuth ) was a German biologist and zoologist .
Life
Dieter Matthes, son of Study Council Oskar Matthes and the Gertrud born Berndt, devoted himself after high school to study zoology, botany and chemistry at the universities of Leipzig , Innsbruck and Erlangen , which he interrupted by military service in Russia and Denmark , 1948 the acquisition of the academic degree of Dr. phil. nat. completed.
Matthes was after the war, first as a village teacher in francs made before he took in 1949 an assistant at the Zoological Institute in Erlangen, 1962 habilitated he there for the zoology, the same year he became a lecturer , in 1968 associate professor and in 1978 associate professor appointed . In 1985 he took over the deputy chair, which he held until his retirement in 1989.
His research focused on the morphology , but also the ecology and systematics of protozoa , parasitology , animal sociology and the sexual biology of insects.
