Dieter W. Leitner

Dieter W. Leitner (born August 2, 1935 in Danzig-Langfuhr ) is a German journalist , writer , type artist and book designer .

life and work

Dieter W. Leitner attended high schools in Denmark and Darmstadt . He then completed an apprenticeship in the Darmstadt Atelier Delp as a poster and lettering painter, which he completed as a chamber winner in the Darmstadt administrative district.

From 1954 Leitner studied at the Werkkunstschule Offenbach with Professor Herbert Post . Later he also studied with Henry Gowa and Karlgeorg Hoefer . Then Leitner taught the design of Gothic fonts at the " Klingspor writing workshop " in Offenbach , founded by Hoefer in 1987 .

He wrote articles for the daily newspapers Darmstädter Echo and Darmstädter Tagblatt ; especially on his main topic of writing and book art. In addition, Leitner created drawings over many years that were printed in the Frankfurter Rundschau .

Leitner designed book covers and records (eg. As for the Culture Prize of the City Pfungstadt and for the Protestant church ), posters , calligraphic sheets , logos , woodcuts , linocuts and inlay work .

Leitner also dealt with crocheting and embroidery . He crocheted a "coat of letters" and embroidered it with a poem ( Omnia vincit amor ) by Virgil .

Leitner was part of the “Kelsterbacher Kreis” for 30 years. He is still a member of the “Klingspor writing workshop”. Dieter W. Leitner lives in Pfungstadt .

Exhibitions

Leitner was also active as an exhibition maker:

  • In 1983 Leitner arranged the exhibition "Postscripta" in what was then Pfungstädter Kunsthalle .
  • In 1989 he realized an exhibition in Seeheim's "Blue Oven" on the 65th birthday of his college friend Willi Altzweig.
  • Leitner's own work was presented in several exhibitions, most recently in 2014 in the Pfungstadt City Museum.
