Dietrich Schubert (art historian)

Dietrich Schubert (born April 24, 1941 in Gera , Thuringia ) is a German art historian .

life and work

Schubert studied art history, German literature and sociology at the University of Leipzig in 1960/61 and from 1964 at the universities in Freiburg im Breisgau , Vienna and Munich . In 1970 he was awarded the doctoral thesis “The paintings of the Braunschweig monogrammist . A contribution to the history of Dutch painting in the 16th century ”with Wolfgang Braunfels and Wolfgang Braunfels in Munich.

From 1971 to 1977 he was a research assistant at the University of Regensburg and then a habilitation scholarship from the German Research Foundation . In 1979 he completed his habilitation with Josef Adolf Schmoll called Eisenwerth at the Technical University of Munich on the subject of Lehmbruck's art . From 1980 until his retirement in 2006 he was professor for general art history at the University of Heidelberg .

Schubert published, among other things, on Dutch painting of the 16th century, on Otto Dix , the newer monument, on the impact of Nietzsche and Expressionism ; also on Austrian painting and sculpture of the late 19th and 20th centuries and the history of the Heinrich Heine monuments 1887–1983.
