Dietrich von Haas

Dietrich von Haas (* 1727 in Holland ; † March 24, 1797 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Military career

He went into Dutch service in 1741. From 1742 to 1748 he took part in the fighting in Holland, Flanders and Brabant. On March 28, 1746 he was appointed extraordinary engineer. On January 30, 1751 he became a lieutenant engineer, but in 1756 he retired from the Dutch service. In 1757 he came into the Prussian service as an engineering trainee . During the Seven Years' War he joined the army of Duke Ferdinand von Braunschweig. He fought in the battles of Krefeld and Minden and the sieges of Kassel and Munster. After the war on December 30, 1764, he was appointed major in the Magdeburg engineering corps . In 1769 he made plans for the fountain in Sanssouci , for which Friedrich II thanked and which he later had implemented.

On March 2, 1770 he was posted to Russia to watch the campaign against the Turks. After the siege of Bender on September 26, 1770, he was supposed to return to Berlin. When the Prussians occupied Poznan on November 13, 1771, he was assigned to the city as an engineer. The following year he was transferred back to Magdeburg. On July 30, 1778, he was transferred to Silberberg as ad interim commander and was appointed real commander on November 24, 1780. On June 13, 1787 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , but on September 11, 1787 he had to hand over the command to Colonel von Capeller. On May 20, 1791 he was then colonel and chief brigadier in Westphalia , the Mark and Magdeburg. On July 24, 1791 he received an annual tract of 2,400 thalers. On December 31, 1796 he received his resignation as major general and a pension of 1000 thalers.

He died a little later on March 24, 1797 in Potsdam.

Haas married Maria Elisabeth von Herrmann (* 1727) on January 10, 1755 in Mersen. The couple had several children:
