Philip of Ivernois

Philip of Ivernois (born December 4, 1754 in Geneva , † June 1, 1813 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Philipp was a son of the Council of State in Neuchâtel and castle captain of Laudon, Joseph d'Ivernois and his wife NN Vehoff. His younger brother was the Swiss economist François d'Ivernois (1757–1842).

military service

Ivernois was already in Swiss military service in 1770 before he moved to Prussia as a staff captain in May 1786 to the Swiss free regiment " Müller von Andolfingen ". In October 1786 he was promoted to captain and company commander . Then he went in 1787 to Fusilier - Bataillon . No. 20 of Magdeburg, Füsilierbrigade. He received his promotion to major in 1792 and was transferred as such to Fusilier Battalion No. 18.

Ivernois took part in the First Coalition War and received the order Pour le Mérite for his service in the battle near Weidenthal . He also took part in the battles of Pirmasens and Kaiserslautern , the siege of Landau and the battles near Bingen, Steinbach and the Schänzel.

In 1798 Ivernois became the commander of Fusilier Battalion No. 20 and received his patent and promotion to lieutenant colonel in June 1760 . As early as 1803 he was transferred to the Westphalian fusilier brigade and then promoted to colonel .

After participating in the Fourth Coalition War , he became inactive as a result of the Prussian capitulation, but was promoted to major general with half salary in September 1807 in recognition of his achievements in the campaign. In 1808 Ivernois waived half his salary. In 1809 he became inspector of the inactive officers in Berlin and in January 1813 received his parting with half pay as a pardon , but in April he was appointed military governor of the Prussian provinces on the left Elbe, which were lost due to the war. He passed away two months later.

family

Ivernois married Sophie Wilhelmine Dorothea von Biedersee (1757–1830) in Magdeburg in 1788. The marriage resulted in a son Franz von Ivernois (1789–1864), wing adjutant of King Friedrich Wilhelm III. and later Prussian lieutenant colonel.
