Dina Kagramanov (born August 26, 1986 in Baku , Azerbaijani SSR ) is a Canadian chess player .

Life

She grew up in Richmond Hill , Ontario , studied psychology at York University in Toronto and graduated with a Bachelor (Honors) degree in 2009 . She works as a financial advisor for the Royal Bank of Canada .

Her younger sister Dalia (* 1993) is also a chess player. For example, the two sisters played in the same team at the 2010 Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk . At this Chess Olympiad Dina Kagramanov played against Phiona Mutesi . In the film Queen of Katwe about Phiona Mutesi, Dina was played by the South African actress Carina Nel .

successes

At the Canadian women's individual championship in 2001 in Toronto, Dina Kagramanov, number 13 of the 18 participants, was fourth. In 2002 she won the 1st Ontario Women's Championship by two points. She won the Canadian U18 Championship for Women in 2003 in the tie-breaker . At the Canadian Women's Championship 2006 in Toronto, Dina Kagramanov was second behind the tied Natalia Khoudgarian after a tie-break . At the 2007 Women's Championship in Kitchener, she was second again behind Natalia Khoudgarian.

In August 2009 she won the Canadian Women's Zone Tournament in Kitchener , Ontario ahead of Nava Starr and Yuanling Yuan . The Canadian Chess Federation counted the zone tournament as a national individual championship for women. For her victory she received the title of International Women's Champion (WIM) and a qualification for the 2010 Women's World Chess Championship in Antakya, Turkey . There she lost to Nana Dzagnidze in the first round .

For the Canadian women's national team, she played at three chess Olympiads : 2002 in Bled on the second board, 2008 in Dresden on the third and 2010 in Khanty-Mansiysk again on the second board. In her 30 games at the Chess Olympiad she had a positive result of 18.5 points from 30 games (+16, = 5, −9; 61.7 percent). At the 2002 Chess Olympiad, she had achieved a norm for obtaining the WIM title.

She is rated inactive by the World Chess Federation FIDE , as she has not played an Elo rated chess game since the Canadian Open Championship in July 2011 .
