from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dirk Diricks (born 1613 in Hamburg ; died on May 11, 1653 there ) was a German engraver .

Live and act

Dirk Diricks was the son of the engraver Jan (Johan Hans) Diricks von Campen. The father moved to Copenhagen shortly after the son was born. Diricks received lessons from his father there and made hunting pictures or copperplate engravings of other portraits. He returned to Hamburg in the 1630s and married Adelheid, née Wolters, in 1635, with whom he had two sons and two daughters. On May 17, 1653 he was buried in Hamburg's Petrikirche . In the funeral sermon on his death, his life and works were honored, they were known both in Italy and in Holland.

The works are qualitatively different, sometimes rated as mediocre in comparison with contemporaries like A. Haelweg. The monograms on his works often show the full name, some with the addition “Hamb.” But also abbreviations such as “DD f.” Or “DDH f.”. Some portraits were also with “Dirk Diricksen Hamb. sculp. ”signed.
