Johannes Clüver

Johannes Clüver , also Cluverus (born February 16, 1593 in Krempe , † December 25, 1633 in Meldorf ) was a German theologian , pastor and historian .

Clüver was the son of a tailor . Supported by the rector of his home school , he attended the Johanneum in Hamburg and began his studies at the University of Rostock in 1609 , which he completed on October 14, 1613 with a master's degree in philosophy and began to hold lectures himself as an adjunct . In 1614 , however, he returned to Süder dithmarschen and took a position as a deacon (third preacher) at the Meldorfer Cathedral . In 1621 he became a pastor in Marne . In 1623 he was appointed by King Christian IV to the theological professorship at the newly founded knight academy in Sorø . At the same time he administered the parish at Sorø Church . In 1626 he received his doctorate from the University of Rostock. In 1630 he left Sorø and became provost in Meldorf.

Clüver wrote several theological and historical works.
