Dirk Heinen (born December 3, 1970 in Cologne ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .

Dirk Heinen played in the E and D youth at Rot-Weiß Köln-Zollstock a . a. together with Dirk Lottner , before he was poached by the youth leader of Bayer Leverkusen at the time, Reiner Calmund .

In 1998, as the undisputed goalkeeper of Bayer 04 Leverkusen , he suffered a fractured skull after a collision and then lost his regular place to Adam Matysek .

From January 2000 to June 2002 Heinen played as a regular goalkeeper at Eintracht Frankfurt , then a season at Denizlispor in Turkey . In 2003/04 he finally moved to VfB Stuttgart as a substitute goalkeeper behind Timo Hildebrand . In March 2006, Heinen tore his Achilles tendon while training. In the 2006/07 season, Michael Langer was the new number 2 behind Hildebrand. On May 19, 2007, he became German football champion for the first time with VfB Stuttgart and then ended his active career.

Dirk Heinen wandered after his family moved to Waterford in Ireland from (his wife is a native Irish ) in order to gain distance from the football.

On January 31, 2008, Heinen signed a contract with Arminia Bielefeld until June 30, 2008 due to the serious injury of Rowen Fernandez . When the recovered Fernandez was injured again on matchday 24 during the game at Hannover 96 , Heinen was substituted on and came to a successful Bundesliga comeback by securing an away point for his club, among other things with a brilliant parade in the last minute of the game.

At the end of the 2007/08 season, he finally ended his career. In total, Heinen played 158 Bundesliga games. Since retiring, he has worked for the Football Association of Ireland as a goalkeeping coach for County Waterford and as a fitness coach for Waterford United .

In February 2006 he took part in the show Wetten, dass ..? part in which a candidate tried to shoot four table soccer balls into the goal from a table football player. Heinen was able to hold a ball, the bet was lost by the candidate after a miss hit the crossbar.
