Dirk Hunter

Dirk Jäger (born August 1, 1964 in Mainz ) is a German oncologist and managing director of the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) in Heidelberg . As medical director, he also heads the Medical Oncology Department, which means that he is responsible for the entire clinical area of ​​the NCT. In addition, Jäger is head of the Clinical Cooperation Unit Applied Tumor Immunity at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg.

Career

After attending the Carlo-Mierendorff-Schule (elementary school) in Mainz-Kostheim , Jäger went to the old-language Rabanus-Maurus-Gymnasium in Mainz. After graduating from high school in 1983, he studied medicine in Lübeck and Freiburg from 1985 to 1991 . From 1990 to 1991 he completed his practical year at the Karlsruhe Municipal Hospital . In 2003 he completed his habilitation in internal medicine at the Mainz University Hospital . In the same year he received recognition of the specialization in hematology and internal oncology. Jäger then worked until 2005 as a senior physician at the clinic and polyclinic for oncology at the University Hospital Zurich . On July 1, 2005, he went to the National Center for Tumor Diseases in Heidelberg as Director of the Department of Medical Oncology.

Jäger's sister Elke Jäger is chief physician at the Clinic for Oncology and Hematology at the Northwest Hospital in Frankfurt am Main.
