Dirk Schneider (director)

Dirk Schneider (* 1968 in Erfurt ) is a German director and author .

Live and act

Dirk Schneider studied journalism in Leipzig and worked as an author during that time. At the beginning of the 1990s he brought the non-fiction books Stasi intim together with Ariane Riecker and Annett Schwarz . Conversations with former MfS members (1990) and amateur players: six portraits of politicians: Peter-Michael Diestel , Gregor Gysi , Regine Hildebrandt , Günther Krause , Wolfgang Thierse , Konrad Weiss  : and an interview with Friedrich Schorlemmer (1991).

Then Schneider went into advertising . There he was the owner and creative director of an advertising agency in Leipzig for ten years until he turned to film in 2005 . First as a co-author and since 2009 as an author and director, he has made political and historical documentaries , reports , features and image films for various institutions and TV companies. His main topics are the more recent GDR history and Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall .

In 2012 he was awarded the Ernst Schneider Prize , which is renowned in Germany, for the tech drama Stromkollaps . In the same year he worked as a co-author for the critically acclaimed Hans Zimmer biography : Hans Zimmer. The sound for Hollywood .
