Dish of the Day is a 1995 Intercord published music album of the group Fool's Garden .

Creation and publication

As early as 1994, Fool's Garden had won the young talent competition of the clothing chain C&A with the song Wild Days against 700 other participants, whereupon the band shot a video and the song was accompanied by music for a C&A commercial. However, the group was not successful. A new song by the group, Lemon Tree , was eventually included on a trial basis by SWF 3 in 1995 and attracted listeners' interest. The group then signed a deal with Intercord and recorded the album Dish of the Day . It was recorded in the Maryland studio in Weil der Stadt - Merklingen , among others . The first single from the album was released on December 4, 1995, Lemon Tree . The album itself was released on December 7, 1995.

As of December 25, 1995, both Dish of the Day (99th place) and Lemon Tree (70th place) entered the German charts for the first time. The single developed into a surprise success and had already developed into a catchy tune in December 1995, which the radio stations serve daily, sometimes almost every hour. Lemon Tree became the group's first and so far (as of 11/2015) biggest hit. In 1996 the song reached number 1 in the charts in Germany, Austria, Norway, Sweden and Ireland. On March 11, 1996, the album reached number 1 in the German album charts for a week. Both the single and the album were awarded a platinum record in Germany; in February 1996 the single had already sold 250,000 copies. In late February 1996 the album was released internationally. In April 1996 the second single Wild Days came on the market, but only reached number 59 in the German single charts.

From March to May 1996 Fool's Garden went on an album tour and appeared in July and August 1996 as the opening act for Pur in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A tour through Asia followed in September 1996.

The album “offers tasteful, timeless and traditionally arranged compositions. Peter and guitarist Volker Hinkel write songs without a lot of frills and fashionable frills, ”wrote the Saarbrücker Zeitung . "Their original guitar sound with cross-references to the Beatles , Sting , U2 and various other sizes fits the currently acclaimed Brit-Pop like a light blue skirt to pastel-colored fashion," stated the Focus . For the Stuttgarter Zeitung , Dish of the Day sounded "very clearly like a Beatles copy with Sting scrap" and the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung also found that the album was "teeming with catchy tunes and melodies in the style of the Beatles". In 1997, Fool's Garden received an echo for Lemon Tree in the “National Newcomer of the Year” category.
