The Canta District is one of seven districts of the province of Canta in the region of Lima in Peru . In 2017, 2517 people lived in an area of ​​134 km². In 1993 the population was 3146, in 2007 it was 2978.

Geographical location

The district of Canta is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera , about 80 km northeast of the state capital Lima . The main town of Canta , seat of the provincial administration, is located at an altitude of 2819  m . At the 2017 census, it had 1,730 inhabitants. The river valley of the Río Chillón forms the northern boundary of the district. In the west, the district of Canta borders on the district of San Buenaventura , in the north on the district of Huaros , in the east on the province of Huarochirí and in the south on the district of Lachaqui .
