The district of San Buenaventura is located in the province of Canta in the Lima region of western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. In 2017, 608 people lived in an area of 108 km². In 1993 the population was 1192, in 2007 it was 921. The administrative seat is the 2702 m high town of San Buenaventura with 196 inhabitants (as of 2017). San Buenaventura is located about 5 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Canta .
Geographical location
The district of San Buenaventura is located in the mountains of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northeast of the province of Canta. The Río Chillón flows along the southeastern district boundary in a south-southwestern direction.
The district of San Buenaventura is bordered to the west by the districts of Huamantanga , Sumbilca and Atavillos Bajo (the last two in the province of Huaral ), to the north by the district of Atavillos Alto , to the northeast by the district of Huaros and to the southeast by the districts of Canta and Lachaqui .
