The district of Arahuay is located in the province of Canta in the Lima region in western Peru . The district was founded on February 12, 1821. In 2017, 644 people lived on an area of ​​135 km². In 1993 the population was 681, in 2007 it was 686. The administrative seat is the 2505  m high village of Arahuay with 326 inhabitants (as of 2017). Arahuay is located 18 km south-southwest of the provincial capital Canta .

Geographical location

The district of Arahuay is located in the mountains of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the southeast of the province of Canta. The Río Arahuay, a left tributary of the Río Chillón , crosses the district in a south-westerly direction.

The district of Arahuay borders in the west on the district Santa Rosa de Quives , in the northeast on the district Lachaqui , in the east on the district Laraos , in the southeast on the district Huachupampa and in the south on the district San Antonio (the last three districts mentioned belong to Huarochirí Province ).
