The Ichocán District is located in the San Marcos Province in the Cajamarca Region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on December 11, 1982. It has an area of ​​67.9 km². The 2017 census counted 1901 inhabitants. In 1993, the population was in 3470, in 2007 at the 2149th seat of the district administration is at an altitude of 2596  m nearby places Ichocán with 592 inhabitants (2017). Ichocán is located in the northwest of the district, almost 6 km southeast of the provincial capital San Marcos on the national road 3N.

Geographical location

The district of Ichocán is located in the east of the Peruvian Western Cordillera and there in the south of the province of San Marcos. The lengthwise extension in NW-SE direction is 20 km, the maximum width is almost 8 km. The Río Crisnejas , a left tributary of the Río Marañón , flows east along the southeastern border of the district . In the southeast the district extends to the confluence of the Río Shirac in the Río Crisnejas.

The district of Ichocán borders on the Eduardo Villanueva and Chancay districts in the southwest, the Pedro Gálvez district in the northwest, the José Manuel Quiroz district in the northeast and the Sitacocha district ( Cajabamba province ) in the southeast .
