The Lobitos district is located in the Talara province of the Piura region in the extreme northwest of Peru . The district was established on March 17, 1955. It has an area of 233.01 km². The 2017 census counted 1312 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1245, in 2007 it was 1506. The administrative seat of the district is the coastal town of Lobitos with 1271 inhabitants (as of 2017). Lobitos is 13 km north of the provincial capital Talara .
Geographical location
The Lobitos District is located on the Pacific coast in the central west of the Talara Province. It extends over a semi-desert landscape. The district has about 25 km of coastline and 40 km inland. There are several beaches on the coast. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) crosses the hinterland of the district. In the north, the Lobitos district borders on the El Alto district , and in the south on the Pariñas district .
