The La Brea district (also La Brea Negritos district ) is located in the Talara province of the Piura region in the extreme northwest of Peru . The district was established on October 31, 1932. It has an area of 692.96 km². The census in 2017 counted 12,486 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 13,404, in 2007 12,486. The administrative seat of the district is the coastal town of Negritos with 12,277 inhabitants (as of 2017). Negritos is 9 km south of the provincial capital Talara .
Geographical location
The district of La Brea is located on the Pacific coast and extends over a semi-desert landscape in the south of the province of Talara. The district has an approximately 30 km long coastline and 40 km inland. There are several beaches on the coast. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) crosses the district. In the north, the La Brea district borders the Pariñas district , in the east with the Marcavelica district ( Sullana province ) and in the south with the Ignacio Escudero districts (also in the Sullana province), Tamarindo , Amotape and Vichayal (the latter three in the province Paita ).
