The Paita Province is one of eight provinces in the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The province has an area of 1785 km². At the 2017 census, 129,892 people lived in the province. In 1993 the population was 76,070, in 2007 108,535. The provincial administration is located in the city of Paita .
Geographical location
The province of Paita is located on the Pacific coast in the west of the Piura region. In the southwest the province borders on the Bahía de Sechura Bay . The province has a length in north-south direction of about 65 km and extends about 24 km inland. It extends over the desert-like coastal plain. The Río Chira crosses the north of the province. Irrigated agriculture is practiced there.
The province of Paita borders the province of Talara in the north, the province of Sullana in the east and the provinces of Piura and Sechura in the southeast .

The province of Paita is divided into seven districts (distritos) . The district of Paita is the seat of the provincial administration.
