The district of Máncora is located in the Talara province of the Piura region in the extreme northwest of Peru . The district was established on December 11, 1964. It has an area of 100.19 km². The 2017 census counted 13,028 residents. In 1993 the population was 7009, in 2007 it was 10,547. The administrative seat of the district is the coastal town of Máncora with 12,899 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The district of Máncora is located on the Pacific coast in the far north of the province of Talara. It extends over a semi-desert landscape. The river Río Máncora runs along the northern district boundary and flows into the sea in the north of the district if there is sufficient water flow . The district has a 9 km long coastline and extends up to about 21 km inland. There are several beaches on the coast. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) runs not far from the coast through the district. In the north, the Máncora district borders on the Canoas de Punta Sal district ( Contralmirante Villar province , Tumbes region ), in the east on the Marcavelica district ( Sullana province ) and in the south on the Los Órganos district .
