The Morales district is located in the department of San Martín in the region San Martin in northern Peru . The district has an area of 43.91 km². At the 2017 census, there were 33,067 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 14,241, in 2007 23,561. The district administration is located in the city of Morales with 30,708 inhabitants (as of 2017). Morales forms the north-western part of the metropolitan area of the provincial capital Tarapoto and is less than 3 km from the city center.
Geographical location
The Morales district is located in a basin landscape in the eastern Andes in the far west of the San Martín province. The longitudinal extent in SSW-NNE direction is about 11.5 km. The Río Cumbaza , left tributary of the Río Mayo , flows through the northeast of the district.
The district borders in the southwest with the district Cuñumbuqui ( province Lamas ), in the northwest with the district Cacatachi , in the northeast with the district San Antonio , in the east with the district Tarapoto and in the south with the district Juan Guerra .
