Athletic career
Djilali Bedrani has been competing in national competitions since 2010. At that time, in addition to the obstacle course, he also started over the distances of 800 and 1500 meters. In March 2011 he competed in the junior race of the 2011 World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria, in which he finished 78th. It was better for him at the European Cross Country Championships in the same year in which he won the bronze medal with the team in the U20 classification. He won bronze with the team in 2013 and 2015, then in the U23 classification. In the summer he was the French U20 champion in the 3000 meter obstacle course. He then focused more and more on this route from 2012 onwards. So he started in this discipline at the U20 World Championships in Barcelona. As sixth of his prelims, he failed to make it into the finals and finished in 14th place overall. At the French championships of adults, he finished ninth. A year later he moved into the final at the U23 European Championships in Tampere, where he finished eighth in 8: 46.11 minutes. The 2014 season was largely missed due to a hip injury.
He achieved the same ranking two years later in 8: 50.99 min at the U23 European Championships in Tallinn. In 2016 Bedrani first won the bronze medal over 3000 meters at the French indoor championships. In the summer he won the silver medal in the obstacle course at the national championships and then entered the European championships in Amsterdam. After tenth place in the preliminaries, however, he could not move into the final. His lead time was almost 30 seconds higher than his best time of 8: 28.34 minutes, which had already been set during the season. In 2017 he finished third at the French championships. In 2018 he took part in the European Championships in Berlin . This time he made it into the final, where he was more than ten seconds behind his lead time and was tenth. In spring 2019 Bedrani competed over 300 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow. There he finished fourth in the final in 7: 58.40 minutes. In July he was the first French champion in the obstacle course. In this discipline he then competed at the World Championships in Doha in October . After a successful run-up, he finished fifth in the final with a new best time of 8: 05.23 min. In February 2020 he set a new best time over 3000 meters in the hall in 7: 41.40 minutes.
