Djordje Aleksandar Mihailovic (* 10. November 1998 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is an American football player of Serbian descent, who in the MLS - Franchise Chicago Fire is under contract. The attacking midfielder has been the US international since January 2019 .

Djordje Mihailovic was born in Jacksonville , Florida to the former Serbian soccer player Aleks Mihailovic, who played in the North American Soccer League in the United States , and a mother of Yugoslavia . He was introduced to the sport of football at an early age and began his training at Chicago Blast, where his father was under contract at the time. In 2013 he moved to the Chicago Fire youth department , where he rose to become one of the best players of the year. In total, he scored 41 goals in 66 games for the Academy.

In 2015, he coached the first time with the first team and on 21 January 2017 he signed a Homegrown Player his first professional contract with MLS - Franchise . On March 11, 2017 (2nd matchday) he made his debut in a 2-0 home win against Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer, when he came on for Michael de Leeuw in the 93rd minute . In the 2017 game year he was regularly listed in the first team's matchday squad and from August 2017 was also used more and more in the starting lineup. On September 28th (31st matchday) he scored his first league goal in a 4-1 away win against the San José Earthquakes at the age of 18. His promotion to a regular player was halted in the playoff game against the New York Red Bulls on October 26, 2017, when he was substituted off due to injury after 65 minutes of play. The game ended in a 4-0 home defeat and meant the team was eliminated from the competition. Mihailovic was diagnosed with a cruciate ligament rupture , which is why he was out for several months. He finished his rookie season with 18 league games in which he scored a goal.

Mihailovic did not return to the field until mid-August 2018 in the following season, 2018 , but quickly regained a regular place. He completed all nine remaining league games on his return, in which he scored one goal and prepared three more goals. The next game year 2019 he held his status as a regular player, but slipped out of the starting line-up in July 2019 and ended the season with three goals and one assist in 27 league appearances.

National team

Djordje Mihailovic played in international tournaments for the US U19 national team in 2016 and 2017 . In March 2019, he also completed two friendly international matches for the U23 .

On January 28, 2019, Mihailovic made his debut for the senior national team in a friendly against Panama and scored a goal in a 3-0 win. On June 15 of the same year he was nominated by head coach Gregg Berhalter to replace the injured Duane Holmes in the USA squad for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup in his own country. At the tournament he made two appearances in the group stage.
