Síria is a white wine variety .
Descent, origin
Is a cross between herbaceous and a still unknown grape variety.
It was first mentioned under the name Cigüente in Spain in 1513 by Gabriel Alonso de Herrera (1470–1539); in Portugal it has been known as Alvaro de Sousa since 1531 . The exact origin of the variety is presumably in the vicinity of the city of Pinhel in north-eastern Portugal.
distribution
The worldwide cultivation area was around 7900 hectares in 2010. Under the name Doña Blanca it is approved in the Spanish region of Galicia . Under the name Doña Branca , its cultivation is recommended in the Portuguese regions of Trás-os-Montes and Beira Litoral . It is also approved in the Douro , Minho and Beira Interior regions .
Wine
The early ripening variety usually produces mediocre wines with a golden yellow color and a slight bitter tone. In blending with the variety Arinto obtained white wines in the style of Verde Vinho .
