The Docklands Stadium (through sponsorship agreement officially Marvel Stadium ) is a stadium with closable roof in the district of Docklands the Australian metropolis of Melbourne , State of Victoria . The capacity is 56,347 spectators.

history

The stadium opened in 2000 as the Colonial Stadium (named after a financial services company). It was renamed Telstra Dome after a telecommunications company in 2002. The owner is James Fielding Funds Management , which acquired the stadium in 2006 for 330 million Australian dollars from the television station Channel Seven . As of March 1, 2009, the stadium was called Etihad Stadium after a contract with Etihad Airways , an airline from the United Arab Emirates , was concluded. After the AFL bought the stadium in mid-2018, otherwise it would have been demolished, the venue was renamed Marvel Stadium in October of that year .

The arena is mainly used by clubs in the Australian Football League - St. Kilda, Carlton, Essendon, North Melbourne, West Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs . The A-League football club Melbourne Victory also plays its home games here.
