Dodo (* 1977 in Nairobi ; actually Dominik Jud ) is a Swiss reggae and ragga singer .

Life

Dodo Jud was born to Swiss parents in Kenya and spent his first years in Abidjan on the Ivory Coast . In 1983 the family returned to Switzerland. Dodo got his first stage experience at the age of 17 when he performed in youth houses and schools.

Music career

In autumn 1999 Dodo became known to a larger audience in Switzerland through his participation in the reality show "Expedition Robinson" on TV3 . With its almost simultaneously published debut - single "Robin Song" equating rose in the Swiss charts one. In summer 2000, in collaboration with Thomas Gassmann (also known as Mec2rue ), with whom Dodo formed the band Doppelganger , the accompanying album "Radio Play" was released. The single "Wieso?" That was extracted from it subsequently achieved a place in the charts. Two years later, Doppelganger realized their second and last reggae album entitled "Original". In addition to being a singer, Dominik Jud also worked as a producer on this album .

Since 2004 Dodo has been working as a solo artist again and regularly appears at concerts and festivals all over Switzerland, Germany and Austria. In 2006 he released his first solo album "Endlich", which was followed three years later by the album "Reggae Against the Machine". In 2009 Dodo took 4th place at the protest song contest with the song "Plan B (Allstars Remix)" . In 2011 his third album "Funkloch" was released on the Swiss market, containing soul and funk influences. In August 2012, Dodo covered the world hit O mein Papa by Lys Assia on the Swiss TV show "Cover Me" . As a producer, he has already produced 2 albums by dialect rapper Steff La Cheffe, whose second album reached number 1 in the Swiss charts. Dodo Jud also produced the album "Zucker fürs Volk" for the dialect combo Lo & Leduc . They received three awards at the Swiss Music Awards in February 2015 . As a co-producer of the Swiss James Gruntz , Dodo was also involved in his success at the Swiss Music Awards. Gruntz received two awards.

As a solo artist, Dodo released his first single "Hippie-Bus" in February 2015 in anticipation of a new album. It stayed in the charts for months. The album Anti Brumm was released on September 25th and entered the charts at number 2.
