Dominic Roussel (born February 22, 1970 in Hull , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played for the Philadelphia Flyers , Winnipeg Jets , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League from 1992 to 2003 as well as the Starbulls Rosenheim and Frankfurt Lions in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Dominic Roussel began his career as a ice hockey goalkeeper with the Trois-Rivières Draveurs and the Shawinigan Cataractes in the Canadian Québec Major Junior Hockey League , where he was active from 1987 to 1990. During the NHL Entry Draft in 1988 he was selected in the third round at a total of 63rd position by the Philadelphia Flyers . Until 1992 he played mostly with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League , where he was able to repel 88.8 percent of the shots. The following three seasons he played mostly with the Flyers in the National Hockey League , but was still used for a few games with the Hershey Bears. He played a total of 140 NHL games with the Flyers, in which he achieved a catch rate of almost 90 percent.
In February 1996 the Flyers transferred him to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Tim Cheveldae and a draft pick . In the Jets, he came on only seven missions, which is why his expiring contract was not extended. Roussel signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, but was deported to their farm team , the Philadelphia Phantoms , where he was able to perform consistently in the AHL. The following season he spent most of the season with Team Canada . He also played two games for the Starbulls Rosenheim in the German Ice Hockey League . In June 1998, the Flyers, who still owned the rights to him, transferred him along with Jeff Staples in exchange for a draft pick to the Nashville Predators .
Before the Predators' newly formed franchise began playing, it was given to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in exchange for Chris Mason and Marc Moro . In Anaheim he played 51 NHL games in the following two and a half years, in which he was able to repel over 90 percent of the shots. In January 2001, the Mighty Ducks put him on the waiver list, from which the Edmonton Oilers selected him. His stay with the Oilers ended after eight games, the following season played with the Rapides de LaSalle in the semi-professional Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey . On July 1, 2002, Roussel signed a contract with the Frankfurt Lions in the DEL as a free agent . After the end of the 2002/03 season, he finally ended his active career.
